Dr. Emma Carroll, PhD

Carroll Lab PI

Dr. Emma Carroll is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at San José State University. She received her Ph.D. in the Marqusee Lab at UC Berkeley where she studied the effect of ubiquitin on protein energetics and subsequent proteasomal degradation. She then completed her postdoctoral training in the Gestwicki Lab at the University of California, San Francisco, where she developed small molecule dyes that recognize specific conformations of aggregated proteins in neurodegenerative diseases. In her free time, she enjoys exploring Bay Area trails, trying new restaurants, and hanging out with her family and two cats, Stella and Dusty.

Anushree Bhattacharya

SJSU Research Student

Hi! My name is Anushree Bhattacharya and I am majoring in molecular biology. I am interested in the field of biotechnology and bioinformatics. Research, for me, is unlocking the door to real-world applications of the concepts we learn in lectures and observing them come to life in the lab.
Outside of my academic pursuits, I love to sketch and paint using different media. I am a nephophile, one who loves clouds and capturing different shades of sky. Feel free to reach out to me if you're interested in art or love gazing at clouds! I will be happy to chat.

Jeslyn Hopham

SJSU Research Student

Hello, I’m Jeslyn Hopham!  The motivation of my Biochemistry major is fostered by my desire to grow a greater foundational understanding of neurochemical pathways.  I’m intrigued by books and seminars related to the results of these processes.  Aside from this, I love to play and listen to piano, and do anything that gets my blood rushing.
